Breaking the Mould! - Article by Lee Scott of Personal Training UK
The days of being run into the ground and not being able to make it
down the stairs after an hour of Personal Training are quickly changing.
Now we are beginning to see a more calculated approach to personal training,
both from the customer and the trainer.
You the customer are more in tune with your personal requirements than
ever before, due to television, internet, magazines and celebrities.
You are now able to go to your trainer and ask for Madonna’s arms,
J-Lo’s butt or Britney’s abs.
We as the trainers have a clear understanding of both the result and
how to create it. The science of exercise and the physiological developments
allow us to sculpt the areas required, rather than force into shape.
This I feel is a major change for us all, as we are able to work more
specifically on weak areas rather than just a general overview.
For instance we at Personal Training UK carry out a number of detailed
pre training tests to establish with you, the client, exactly what areas
need focus.
Pre test as follows:-
- 15-20 min chat regarding the clients goals.
- Our initial feedback on the above, and areas we feel need addressing.
- Bodystat Test if necessary to confirm detailed internal areas of
improvement i.e. body fat and lean tissue ratio.
- Postural Analysis Test to determine tight and weak muscle in accordance
to postural distortion of the body, i.e. forward shoulders or weak
core muscles causing lower back pain.
- Cardio Testing to determine basic level of cardio fitness and understanding
of cardio training elements.
- Then having gathered all this information, sit down with the client
to discuss the order and approach to the training.
Our more specific and sports medical approach allows us then to deliver
the difference. Unlike some personal trainers we start by using the National
Academy of Sports Medicine’s OPT model of training, which stands
for the Optimum Performance Training Pyramid.
This ensures that for all our clients they receive detailed and specific
training for their needs. Each section takes between 4 -8 weeks depending
on the client.
The following areas are included:-
- Corrective Training
- Stability Training
- Strength Training
- Power Training
After we have worked our way through these areas with you, you will
have achieved your goals in a quick but effective manner.
